The Campus of The Marine Science Consortium is undergoing a big change! Since 1969 MSC has been housed in former WWII Naval housing. These old buildings were used as dormitories, labs, classrooms, offices, cafeteria, and maintenance buildings for 40 years.
In March 2009 the Marine Science Consortium began a $15 million campus revitalization project that will result in the construction of six new buildings and the demolition of many more. The new buildings, built using sustainable principles and materials, will be great new spaces for our participants. The new Education Center will be LEED (Leadership in Environment and Design) Certified by the US Green Building Council and will be a model of green buidling methods.
Check-out the progress of construction on our education center by visiting our construction webcam.
The Education Center will house MSC’s wet labs, classrooms, computer lab, bookstore, and
administrative offices. It can accommodate gatherings of up to 100 people as well as many types of educational disciplines.
The 216 person residence hall is
organized into small units allowing for flexibility in group sizes and numbers.
Each unit has a two bed bedroom and three bedrooms that will sleep four. It also has two bathrooms with double sinks, toilets, and showers.
The 64 person college dormitory will have suites of four 2-person rooms containing desks and dressers.
Updated staff housing will be more comfortable and energy efficient
