...hands-on, feet-wet education
This intensive one-day nature photography workshop is open to all levels of photographers that own a Digital SLR camera. You will have the opportunity to learn a variety of camera techniques and how to better use your camera gear. Ideas on how to enhance your photographs through creative expression will also be shared.
The beautiful Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Assateague National Seashore offer a variety of photogenic subjects. You can expect to photograph ocean views, beach scenes, patterns and textures in the sand, marshes and wildlife.

The workshop will start just before sunrise and end just after sunset. We will spend time in the field early and late in the day to take advantage of the best lighting conditions. The hands-on instruction in the field will be targeted to improve your technique and photographic vision while the instant feedback will accelerate the learning process. Nikhil will make a presentation in the middle of the day that will cover basics like techniques for optimal exposure and creating sharp images to more advanced topics like how to use light and color, composition, creativity and more. There will also be an image critique session to give you constructive feedback on your photographs.
Since we’ll be photographing a wide variety of subjects ranging from landscapes to wildlife, having a variety of focal lengths will be useful. A total range of 15mm to 300mm is recommended. Focal lengths in the 400mm to 600mm range are great for wildlife photography. Zoom lenses can help reduce the number of lenses you bring. Close focusing lens for possible macro/close-up work is also recommended. A tripod is essential for long exposures at twilight. It is not necessary to own all the recommended gear to get the most out of this workshop. Please bring what you have.
Class size is limited to 10 participants.
Tuition : $215.00 (cost includes meals , transportation to field sites and instruction)
Lodging during the program is available at the Consortium for an additional fee of $35.00 per person / per night.
