...hands-on, feet-wet education
Explore Virginia’s gorgeous Eastern Shore by bike. Join a small group of like-minded adventurers for a scenic journey, full of interesting learning opportunities and unique wildlife. Venture along the biking trails of Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Assateague National Seashore as you learn about the ecology and natural history of the island. Pedal to the Wallops Island Navy and NASA facility to learn about dune ecology at a deserted and pristine beach restricted to the public. Travel across the Eastern Shore Peninsula from the Atlantic Ocean to the Chesapeake Bay and visit 200 year old historic sites. Wild Ponies, Egrets and Horseshoe Crabs all await you on the Eastern Shore of Virginia!
Participants will bike approx: 9-27 miles, 3-5 hours a day at a moderate pace with frequent stops for natural interpretation and visits to historical sites. Biking routes are paved bucolic country roads on mostly flat terrain. Group biking style with pacesetter, sweep rider and fully stocked sag wagon.
